We’re fighting for the Midtown New Yorkers deserve, with more space for walking, biking, and public transit.

About the Campaign

Today, over two million people navigate Midtown every day, and they’re met with clogged sidewalks, congested streets, and polluted air.

More than three quarters of households in Council Districts 3 and 4 — which make up the bulk of Midtown — are car-free. Over 85% of residents here bike, walk, or take transit to work, but streets still prioritize moving and storing cars.

The M42 bus — which serves Times Square-42nd Street, the busiest subway station in North America — and the M34 bus — which serves Penn Station, the busiest commuter rail station in the hemisphere — are barely crawling. Council Districts 3 and 4 have the second-slowest buses in all of New York City.

In 2025, one in four Citi Bike trips originated in, ended in, or passed through either Council Districts 3 or 4, despite the lack of protected crosstown bike lanes.

It’s time for a change.

We’re calling for a Miracle in Midtown, and that means:

  • A Miracle on 34th Street - a car-free busway and transformed pedestrian space

  • A Miracle on 42nd Street - a car-free busway and transformed pedestrian space

  • A Miracle on 5th Avenue - a full redesign with more pedestrian space, better bus infrastructure, and a protected bike lane, as called for in DOT’s 2021 plan.

  • A real bike network in Midtown - including a river-to-river connection in the 40s, a southbound bike lane, and completed bike lanes on Seventh Avenue.
