Slower, Safer Speeds Now!
Sammy Cohen Eckstein was killed by a reckless driver when he was only 12 years old. In the decade since, his mother and members of Families for Safe Streets have fought for the right for New York City to finally control its own speed limits — and in 2024, they finally won.
Unfortunately, the City is mostly ignoring its newfound powers. NYC DOT has implemented slower, safer speeds on less than 2% of eligible streets.
