Southside People Over Pavement

The people of Los Sures deserve safe streets. It's time to prioritize community over cars.

About the Campaign

In the Southside of Williamsburg (Los Sures), valuable public spaces have been taken from the community and replaced with highway-like roads—polluting our air, endangering our neighbors, and deepening long-standing environmental injustices. Since 2022, 46 people in Los Sures have been seriously injured in traffic crashes. With the worst air pollution and lowest tree coverage in the borough, our neighborhood deserves action. Safe streets, green spaces, and public health are for everyone, and we have a collective right to assert and create these spaces for our community's health and wellness.

We are calling for:

  • Daylight the corners of Roebling and S 3rd and 4th Streets.

  • Decommission Roebling, South 3rd and 4th Streets as truck routes.

  • Simplify the dangerous intersection at Havemeyer, Borinquen, and South 4th Streets.

  • Shorten pedestrian crossings on Havemeyer between Broadway and Borinquen.

  • Re-unite Continental Army Plaza and LaGuardia Playground.
