A Win For New York City and for America: Statement on Confirmation of Polly Trottenberg as Deputy Secretary of Transportation at USDOT

NEW YORK CITY - In response to the confirmation of former NYC Department of Transportation (NYC DOT) Commissioner Polly Trottenberg to be Deputy Secretary of Transportation at the United States Department of Transportation (USDOT), Transportation Alternatives released the following statement:

Statement of Transportation Alternatives Executive Director Danny Harris:

“Polly Trottenberg’s confirmation is a win for New York City and for America. On behalf of Transportation Alternatives, we send her our congratulations on this well-deserved appointment.

“In New York City, Commissioner Trottenberg expanded the nation’s largest bike share and protected bike lane network, ushered in the nation’s first Vision Zero program to combat fatal traffic crashes, and advocated for everyday straphangers while serving on the Board of the MTA.

“As New York City and cities across the country face growing transportation challenges, we are hopeful that Trottenberg and the Biden Administration will deliver tested solutions that put people and public transit above private vehicles. Specifically, the Biden Administration must move forward congestion pricing for New York, fully fund public transit for America’s cities, and promote cycling and safe street design throughout the nation.

“New York City will have advocates at the highest levels of the federal government, with Senator Chuck Schumer becoming Senate Majority Leader and Polly Trottenberg serving as Deputy Secretary at USDOT. That both are regular bike riders is an added bonus, and we look forward to working with them and Secretary Buttegieg on critical transportation issues facing our city, state, and nation in the coming years.”
