Update from Today's MTA Board Meeting: A Strong Call for Congestion Pricing

New Yorkers rallying for congestion pricing.

This morning, we sent a powerful message to Governor Hochul and the MTA Board, calling on them to flip the switch and implement congestion pricing immediately.

A record-breaking number of people signed up to testify at today's MTA Board meeting, showing just how much public support there is. We maxed out the MTA's capacity with over a hundred testimonies!

We’ve come this far together, but we still need your help. Keep calling  Governor Hochul and your representatives to let them know why we need congestion pricing now.

Here’s Who to Call

Congestion pricing is not just about raising revenue for the MTA. It will revolutionize our city by providing cleaner air, safer streets, faster buses, more reliable transit, and truly accessible stations. Congestion pricing means a more resilient New York City.

THREE THINGS TO KNOW

Join the TA team as Executive Director. We are searching for a visionary leader to continue TA's 51-year legacy of advocating for safe, equitable, and sustainable streets in New York City. Help us build on our successful campaigns, from banning cars in Central Park to securing protected bike lanes on the Brooklyn Bridge. Join us in transforming New York City's streets – apply today

Staten Island’s Community Board 2 approves safety upgrades on Seaview Ave. The board greenlit a comprehensive plan to improve accessibility on Seaview Avenue, which includes parking-protected bike lanes, a road diet reducing travel lanes in both directions, and daylighting at all intersections. None of this would have been possible without the dedication of our Staten Island Committee activists who champion a greener, more pedestrian-friendly, and equitable Staten Island every day.

In the News. Here's what we're reading this week:

  • Last week, a federal judge dismissed a pivotal congestion pricing lawsuit, dealing a blow to Gov. Hochul's pause on congestion pricing, reports Streetsblog.

  • Flatbush Avenue in Brooklyn will finally prioritize bus riders! According to Gothamist, the plan spans from Livingston Street to Grand Army Plaza.

  • Great news from Dyker Heights! This summer, the city plans to install nearly a mile of protected bike lanes on Seventh Avenue in Dyker Heights, reports Streetsblog.

TWO THINGS TO DO

Register for this year's Vision Zero Conference. Join us in October at NYU for our 11th Annual Vision Zero Cities Conference. At Vision Zero Cities, we’ll explore the intersection of policy, advocacy, and design and the intricate relationship these practices play in shaping the creation of livable cities. Don't miss this dynamic conference where civic leaders, designers, planners, and policymakers from around the world gather for collaborative discussions. Take advantage of early registration pricing and register today.

Join us as we explore the future Queens Waterfront Greenway.  Mayor Adams has secured funding for the city’s Greenway Expansion, featuring new bike and pedestrian paths spanning all five boroughs. We are teaming up with the Queens Waterfront Greenway Community Working Group and GoFB to launch two walks that will highlight a portion of the proposed Queens Greenway route along Flushing Bay. Join us for our first walk on July 11 at 6 p.m., tracing the Queens border along the Long Island Sound.

ONE ACTION TO TAKE NOW

Demand Action from Gov. Hochul: Implement congestion pricing now. Delaying congestion pricing disregards the millions of New Yorkers who rely on public transportation daily, merely to appease the program’s loudest opponents. Stalling congestion pricing will hurt New York and New Yorkers. The program must start on June 30. Please take a few minutes today and tell Governor Hochul: Don't stall congestion pricing.
