Take Action: Safe Speed Limits on the Chopping Block

Amy Cohen is fighting to pass Sammy’s Law in honor of her son who was killed by a reckless driver. Tell Speaker Heastie that the only way to honor Sammy’s life — and the lives of all children killed on New York City streets — is to bring Sammy’s Law to a vote

Right now, Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie is refusing to hold a vote on Sammy’s Law. The session in Albany ends in one week and legislators are intentionally waiting out the clock — putting politics over people’s lives.

Today, legislators from cities and towns hundreds of miles away from New York City decide the speed limits on our roads. It's unsafe and it's unfair. Sammy's Law would give New Yorkers local control of our speed limits.

Can you call Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie at 518-455-3791 today and demand a vote on Sammy’s Law?

CALL SPEAKER HEASTIE

THREE THINGS TO KNOW

Congestion pricing is good for street safety. Vehicular crashes dropped by 35% and fatal car crashes dropped by 27% in London’s congestion pricing zone, and areas outside the CPZ saw additional reductions in crashes. We need to implement congestion pricing in New York City without further delays.

We’re fighting for the entire SAFE Streets Act. We went to Albany last week to urge our state lawmakers to pass the full SAFE Streets Act, a package of six lifesaving bills to address our state’s traffic violence crisis. Send a message to your lawmakers in support now

In the news. Here's what we're reading this week:
