Join Transportation Alternatives and AARP for a series of Walk Audits on Canal Street.
Meetup: Canal and Baxter, at the Chinatown Information Kiosk Date: Wednesday, November 13th Time: 5PM-7PM
How can our streets support the needs of aging New Yorkers? What does a safe street look and feel like? What designs, decisions, and conditions help make our streets safe and vibrant for New Yorkers of all ages and abilities! What conditions on Canal Street make this a particularly hostile corridor for pedestrians?
Join us for the second walk in our series of AARP Livable Neighborhood Community walk audits to understand Canal Street's current challenges for aging New Yorkers. How can the design of our streets support a sustainable public realm for Canal Street's neighbors?
We will take 4 separate walks examining different challenges along Canal Street. We will gather data on Canal's current conditions for pedestrians ahead of the NYC Department of Transportation's plans for a redesign of the corridor. The Third Walk, Canal Street at Rush Hour will highlight traffic conditions during evening commute hours on Canal Street for aging New Yorkers.
These walks will focus on the needs of aging New Yorkers and their advocates, (ages 50+) but are open to all!
Join us for the next walk in our series: Walk 4- Sunday December 8 11-1PM - A Green New Canal
Accessibility Info: We will be on our feet after sundown, covering about .25 miles of walking over 2 hours. We will have a rest area for breaks with seating. We will have lamps and flashlights available.
