It’s time for a protected bike lane network that connects Sunnyside, Woodside, and beyond.
SIGN OUR PETITIONAbout the Campaign
Sunnyside and Woodside need a safe and reliable network of protected bike lanes that connect to the rest of New York City. In City Council District 26, over half of households are car-free and more commuters bike to work than anywhere else in Queens — but infrastructure is still lagging behind.
While Sunnyside has some protected bike lanes connecting east to west, there are none connecting north into Astoria or south into Ridgewood or Brooklyn, and Woodside has virtually no protected bike lanes at all. Many existing paint-only bike lanes in Sunnyside and Woodside abruptly end, forcing riders into traffic. Queens deserves better, and we're calling for new protected bike lanes and improved cycling conditions across the neighborhood, on 47th Avenue, Greenpoint Avenue, Honeywell Street, 39th Avenue, 43rd Street, and 69th Street.
City Council District 26 is the most dangerous council district in Queens, with 233 serious injuries and 27 fatalities since 2022 — or a neighbor killed or seriously injured every five days. There are 130,000 New Yorkers, more than 25,000 bike commuters, and over 80 schools within a quarter of these proposed bike lanes — let's give them a safe way to ride to school, work, the doctor, or just to visit friends.
Send a message to your elected officials today to demand a safe ride in Sunnyside and Woodside!
