Statement from Transportation Alternatives as MTA Board Approves Capital Plan with Massive Funding Gap

Congestion pricing would have generated $15 billion in critical funding for the MTA.

A funding gap means fewer accessibility upgrades, fewer new trains, and less reliable transit.

NEW YORK — Today, Transportation Alternatives released the following statement after the MTA Board approved the next Capital Plan.

Statement from Elizabeth Adams, Interim Co-Executive Director at Transportation Alternatives

“Instead of looking toward the future, the MTA now has to salvage Governor Hochul’s mess — pitting elevator projects against newer trains and signal upgrades. When Governor Hochul thwarted congestion pricing, she sabotaged both the current capital plan as well as the next – trapping the millions of riders who depend on our trains and buses into unreliable and inaccessible transit. Instead of improving your commute, the MTA now has to first grapple with the governor’s recklessness.”

“The MTA’s funding gap will make just getting around the city they call home even harder for everyday New Yorkers. This is Kathy Hochul’s mess – and she has to take steps today to fix it. Turn on the cameras today.”
