Join us for a free, family-friendly block party hosted by Transportation Alternatives and partners on Sunday, June 11, from noon to 4 p.m. on the 34th Ave Open Street in Queens!
Come celebrate 50 years of safe streets and transportation advocacy in New York City! Here’s a little bit of what to expect (subject to some change):
All Day from noon-4 p.m.
How to get there:
Subway: 7/E/F/R at Jackson Heights–Roosevelt Avenue/74th Street.
Bus: Q49 to 35th Avenue/76th Street / Q66 to Northern Boulevard/78th Street
Citi Bike: 12 minute walk from dock at 34th Avenue and 62nd Street
Bike: TA Activist Committees are leading feeder rides from Manhattan, the Bronx, and Brooklyn! TA Bike Valet (secure bike parking) will be available
Family-friendly activities: Arts & crafting, tie dying, face painting, chalk art, a water station, funky street furniture and games, free composting lessons, and much more!
Fun giveaways: Get free stuff throughout the day, from cycling accessories to compost bins! TA members: show us proof of membership and get a free gift, plus spin the wheel for a chance to win some bigger-ticket items like books, shirts, swag and more!
Snacks and refreshments: Grab some delicious treats from local partners, from tamales to samosas! Available free throughout the day while supplies last.
Noon-3:30 p.m.
Bike and e-bike tune-up stations: Get a tune-up or safety check for your classic bike or e-bike! Free, first come first served.
Noon-1 p.m.
70s throwback hour and dance party: Get ready to do the Hustle with TA (Don’t know how? Don’t worry, we’ll teach you!)
Noon-2 p.m.
T-shirt and tote bag silk screening: Hosted by Alliance for Passeo Park. Bring your own t-shirt and/or tote!
1-3 p.m.
Learn to ride a bike lessons: Hosted by Bike New York. Register in advance to guarantee a spot!
Bike demos, test rides, and informational tables: Hosted by partners including Citi Bike, Propel, Oonee, CLIP, and more!
1-3 p.m.
Spatial Equity NYC demonstration: Hosted by TA’s Research Team. See how data and technology can transform how we understand and shape our communities.
1 and 1:30 p.m.
Yoga for the commuter w/ Kate Griffler: Learn some yoga poses to relax and recoup after your long commute!
2 p.m.
Meet and greet your local elected representatives: Come hear from some of your local leaders!
3 p.m.
Composting workshop and compost bin giveaway: Get a free lesson AND a free compost bin! Available while supplies last.
4 p.m.
Final dance and send off: That’s a wrap! Thanks for joining TA and our community partners for a groovy time!
Did we mention this is a 70s themed party? Please come wearing your most 70s-inspired threads and be ready to hustle. (Yes, we will have prizes for best dressed and good effort)
