Williamsburg, Bushwick & Greenpoint have some of the highest bicycle ridership in New York City, but lack the infrastructure needed to protect New Yorkers from dangerous traffic. Wide streets with inadequate crosswalks like Metropolitan Avenue, Graham Avenue and Broadway foster lethal speeding and imperil thousands of Brooklynites daily. With partners in the community, the T.A. Brooklyn Activist Committee is calling for a Street Safety Forum to convene Williamsburg, Bushwick and Greenpoint residents to identify and improve these neighborhood’s most dangerous streets, intersections and pedestrian spaces, using a community-driven process to activate street space for neighborhood residents, boost local business and save lives.
