#FixOurStreets Now More Than Ever

Good news: In the Fiscal Year 2018 Preliminary Budget released by Mayor de Blasio in January, there is $400 million in new funding for Vision Zero projects over the next five years. This includes $317 million specifically for new street safety reconstruction projects, street lighting, and traffic signal improvements.

Now that the funding has been allocated, it is crucial to ensure it is spent on projects worthy of carrying the Vision Zero name. Transportation Alternatives and Families for Safe Streets are urging City Council members to ensure that the money budgeted for street redesigns goes to comprehensive projects that protect all road users with improvements like protected bike lanes and safeguarded crosswalks, as outlined in our Vision Zero Street Design Standard.
