"The tragic loss of two bicyclists this week has shocked all of us and our thoughts and prayers are with the victim's families and friends. Unfortunately, New York's crowded streets often cause conflict between cars and bicyclists as they attempt to share limited space."

Said Noah Budnick, Deputy Director of Transportation Alternatives:

"New York City's growing population needs streets with traffic-protected bike paths.

"Because there's no protected space cyclists are squeezed next to trucks and pushed to the margins where drivers can't see them.

"Protected space improves visibility and helps ensure that all drivers see cyclists. This will prevent bicyclist fatalities and crashes.
