Transportation Alternatives congratulates Mayor Bloomberg on his announcement that the pedestrian and traffic improvements to Times Square and Herald Square will be made permanent. The single most important metric for this project has been its impact on the safety of New Yorkers on Broadway. Since the project's inception, injuries across all street users have declined 39%, with pedestrian-related injuries down 35%.

"The Crossroads of the World is still frenetic and overwhelming; in fact, more people are crossing than ever, they're just doing so on foot," says Paul Steely White, Executive Director of Transportation Alternatives. "When foot traffic is up and injuries are way down, what's not to love?"
