July 10, 2009
Wiley Norvell 1 646-873-6008

When: Sunday, July 12th, 9 am (riders depart by 9:30 am-sharp)
Where: Flushing Meadows Park, in front of the Queens Museum of Art
What: Start line of 19-mile, family-friendly bike tour of southern Queens
Who: 1,200 cyclists biking with Transportation Alternatives

The Sunday marks Transportation Alternatives' second annual Tour de Queens. More than 1,200
bicyclists have already registered for the ride, which is free. Online registration filled up in less
than 12 hours--the fastest of any Transportation Alternatives tour in history--but 500 free day-of
registration spots will be available at 8 am on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Tour de Queens will take riders on a leisurely bike tour of southern Queens, exploring
Flushing, Fresh Meadows. Hollis, Saint Albans, Jamaica, Kew Gardens, Forest Hills and Corona.
Riders will be treated to rest stop at York College. This year's tour also includes a stretch of
Queens Boulevard. Transportation Alternatives is pushing for a protected bike lane on this
dangerous roadway, and many riders will don green this year to echo the call for a "greener"
Queens Boulevard.

The Tour de Queens is hosted by Transportation Alternatives, and sponsored by the Queens
Museum of Art, LaGuardia Community College, York College, Tom Cat Bakery, The Creek, Build It
Green!NYC and Bellitte Bicycles. Transportation Alternatives also hosts the Tour de Brooklyn, Tour
de Bronx and NYC Century Bike Tour.

Full press release and post-event photos to follow on Monday.
