Free Breakfast for Cyclists Tomorrow (Friday) Morning!
By Garth Johnston
Tomorrow is National Bike to Work Day and with the weather set to be stunning again there really isn't a good excuse not to ride to work tomorrow (well, there are some, like if you don't own a bike or your parents never loved you enough to teach you how to ride one, but you know what we mean). Plus! If you do bike in you can get a free breakfast on your way. To celebrate the big day Transportation Alternatives is setting up on the Brooklyn Bridge, the Manhattan Bridge bike path in Manhattan, Joyce Kilmer Park in the Bronx, the Williamsburg Bridge bike path in Brooklyn, the Queensboro Bridge bike path in Queens, the Staten Island Ferry terminal in St. George and the Hudson River Greenway at 72nd Street. At each of those spots they'll be offering riders iced coffee, Clif Bars and fresh fruit between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m. Okay, so it's not flapjacks with a side of bacon, but it's healthy. And, more importantly, free. Also, not to go all PBS pledge drive on you, but if you sign up to be a TA member before Friday at midnight you'll get a free (FREE) set of front and rear bike lights with the TA logo on it. One thing you won't be able to get tomorrow (at least not that we know of) are free helmets. Sadly the city's giveaway program doesn't seem to be in effect tomorrow...but we have strong hunch it'll be back before the CitiBike bike share kicks in.
