For 40 years, Transportation Alternatives’ work for safer streets and a healthier city has been sustained by the financial support of our dues-paying members. Member support has made TransAlt one of New York City’s most respected and effective advocacy organizations.
Together, we’ve transformed New York City’s streets – adding protected bike lanes, pedestrian spaces and America’s largest public bike share program. But these achievements can only be protected if TransAlt has the strength and resources to continue the fight for safer streets.
Including TransAlt in your will is a powerful way to sustain TransAlt’s work for years to come. A gift plan allows you to protect your family’s assets, and meet your charitable goals by providing a stable financial future for Transportation Alternatives.
Making a bequest to TransAlt in your will is a practical, powerful option that anyone can afford. There are several ways to make a bequest through your will:
- Specific bequest: Choose a specific percentage, dollar amount or asset (stocks, retirement funds) you would like to leave to Transportation Alternatives.
- Residual bequest: After you’ve provided for your loved ones, name Transportation Alternatives as a recipient of a percentage or all of your remaining estate.
- Contingent bequest: Name Transportation Alternatives as a beneficiary in the event that other named beneficiaries do not survive you.
"I give (specific amount, percentage or residual amount) to Transportation Alternatives, organized and existing under the laws of New York, having its offices at 111 John St, Ste 260, New York, NY 10038 at the time of this writing, to be used for its general purposes."
Designating Transportation Alternatives as a beneficiary of your retirement plan (IRA, 401(k), 403(b), Keogh Plans or profit-sharing plans) is perhaps the easiest way of making a legacy gift to Transportation Alternatives. Request a beneficiary designation from your plan administrator and use the following information to leave a percentage of your plan to TransAlt:
111 John Street, Suite 260
New York, NY 10038
Federal taxpayer identification number: 51-0186015
If you manage your retirement account online, naming TransAlt as a beneficiary should only take a few minutes. Using the beneficiary designation form means that your gift avoids probate and can help reduce estate taxes.
