I am one of thousands of New Yorkers who are deeply saddened by the recent spate of pedestrian and bicyclist crashes caused by reckless motorists. On average, 11,000 pedestrians and 3,500 cyclists are struck annually in NYC. In many of these cases, speeding and red light running drivers are to blame. As numerous studies show, speed and red light cameras reduce deaths and serious injuries by as much as 40%. To prevent further bloodshed, I urge you to pass the pending Red Light Camera and Speed Camera bills.
