Queens Boulevard Not Yet "Fixed"
In 2001, Queens Blvd. graduated from "Boulevard of Death" to "Thoroughfare of Mutilation." Six pedestrians died crossing Queens Blvd. this past year, compared to an average of nine deaths a year from 1993 to 2000. Fewer deaths is certainly good news, but NYC has a long way to go before Queens Blvd. is "fixed." The City now must build on the support for the changes it has already made and get serious about improving Queens' most infamous thoroughfare. T.A. calls on the DOT to devise a multi-year plan for a full redesign of the boulevard that will return the street to its surrounding neighborhoods.
