Quick Cooperation by DOT
on the QBB
Kudos to the Department of
Transportation for its quick action to improve bicycle and pedestrian access
on the Manhattan approach to the South Outer Roadway. DOT created a wider and
safer approach path by using asphalt to raise part of the curb lane level with
the sidewalk. What was a dangerous, narrow, two leveled chute is now far
easier for cyclists and pedestrians to share. Though not perfect -- DOT could
move Jersey Barriers to widen the chute -- it is a big improvement and
reflects well on the DOT bridge unit. The bicycle and pedestrian path will
permanently change to the North Outer Roadway this fall.
