Mighty Bronx Committee
In 1995, T.A.'s Bronx
Committee got to know Borough President Fernando Ferrer and DOT Bronx
Commissioner Leon Heyward and spent time planning the Bicycle Network and the
Bronx Greenway. In 1996, we will put those plans into action.
1. Building the Crotona/St. Mary's bike route. This north-south route will connect the Triborough Bridge with the Moshulu/Pelham Greenway and encourage cycling in the south central Bronx. Commissioner Heyward has endorsed T.A.'s efforts to create the lane.
2. Re-opening the High Bridge hike and pedestrian path. The High Bridge carries the Crotona Aqueduct across the Harlem River and connects Two beautiful parks. Councilmember Wendell Foster has secured partial funding to re-open the path and improve the parks. T.A. will work to ensure that the project offers good bike access and connections to adjacent bike routes.
3. Presenting the
Neighborhood Streets Network to the Bronx, including to a meeting of
Community Board 7 (January 16 at 7:30 p.m.; call 718-933-5650 for location).
Later we will bring the message to the entire Borough Board. In 1996, we hope
to make the Bronx a leader in traffic calming and pedestrian safety.
