Jane Jacobs Walk – Elmhurst and Jackson Heights, Queens![]() One-third of Transportation Alternatives’ advocacy is dedicated to making New York City a better place for walkers. With pedestrian plazas and Play Streets creating space for neighbors to know one another and improved street designs allowing more New Yorkers to safely embrace neighborhood streets, much of T.A.’s work is inspired by the late author of Death and Life of Great American Cities. In honor of international Jane Jacobs Walk weekend, T.A. and our allies across the city are hosting a series of FREE walks through the neighborhood streets transformed by T.A. advocacy to reflect her legacy. Complete Streets (r)Evolution: Jackson Heights and Elmhurst Host: Transportation Alternatives’ Queens Volunteer Committee, Jackson Heights Green Alliance Walk with us in Elmhurst, a bustling neighborhood with historic architecture, where busy Queens Boulevard is being re-imagined into a “complete street” for all users. Next door, Jackson Heights, a 1920's planned community and home to “Little India,” is undergoing a transformation as streets are converted to plazas for needed public space, and traffic calming improvements make this family-centric neighborhood safer for kids and adults alike to walk and play. RSVP for this event! Start: May 5, 2012 - 11:30am
End: May 5, 2012 - 1:00pm
