Jane Jacobs Walk – Prospect Heights/Park Slope, Brooklyn![]() One-third of Transportation Alternatives’ advocacy is dedicated to making New York City a better place for walkers. With pedestrian plazas and Play Streets creating space for neighbors to know one another and improved street designs allowing more New Yorkers to safely embrace neighborhood streets, much of T.A.’s work is inspired by the late author of Death and Life of Great American Cities. In honor of international Jane Jacobs Walk weekend, T.A. and our allies across the city are hosting a series of FREE walks through the neighborhood streets transformed by T.A. advocacy to reflect her legacy. Minding the GAP: Reclaiming Brooklyn's Premier Public Space Host: Grand Army Plaza Coalition (GAPCo), Transportation Alternatives Brooklyn’s Grand Army Plaza is the heart of the borough. Designed by Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux as the gateway to Prospect Park, and home to civic institutions, monuments and grand residences, it is also the nexus of six major roadways. Join Rob Witherwax of the Grand Army Plaza Coalition (GAPCo) for a tour of its history, focusing on recent, current, and future projects which enhance its public spaces, improve traffic management and create a safer, better Plaza for all. RSVP for this event! Start: May 5, 2012 - 10:00am
End: May 5, 2012 - 11:30am
